عنوان : A Comparative Study of the Views of Allamah Tabatabai and Fakhr Razi Regarding the Concept of Governance Drawing Upon the Verses of the al-Nisa Chapter
Abstract
This study compares the perspectives of Allamah Tabatabai and Fakhr Razi regarding
the concept of governance in Quranic exegeses, al-Mīzān and Mafātiḥ al-Ghayb,
focusing on selected verses from the al-Nisa Chapter. The main objective is to elucidate
the components of governance from the views of these two prominent exegetes and to
examine the possibility of applying these to contemporary Islamic societies. The central
research question is: What are the features of governance as identified by these two
thinkers, and how can these principles be implemented in today’s world? Employing a
descriptive, analytical, and comparative methodology, this study analyzes verses 58,
59, and 135 of the al-Nisa Chapter and examines the exegetic perspectives of both
exegetes. The findings show that although Allamah Tabatabai and Fakhr Razi have
different exegetical approaches; however, both emphasize shared foundational
principles such as justice, consultation, trustworthiness, and responsibility. Allamah
Tabatabai introduces these principles as the pillars of Islamic governance, while Fakhr
Razi, through a jurisprudential-theological approach, provides a practical framework
for their implementation. Overall, the results indicate that these principles can offer an
effective model for achieving desirable governance in contemporary Islamic societies.
